Santiago Elordi (b. Santiago de Chile, 1959)
Is a poet, novelist, translator and journalist. His passion for writing came early and can be seen in his contributions to the newspaper Noroeste, which was published during the last years of Pinochet’s dictatorship and served as a platform for opposers of the regime.
Elordi has been most active as a poet, having received numerous awards. The most recent and important of these was the Premio Nacional de Poesía Inédita 2007, awarded by the Chilean Ministry of Culture for his book Los Ingleses de Sudamérica, which will be published by Uqbar Editorsthis year. His two novels, La Caravana (Libertarias, 1999) and Carta a Diós Desde un Prostíbulo (Norma Chile, 2004) are alive with lyrical, sensual writing as well as a subtle, dark sense of humour to which it is impossible to remain indifferent. Elordi’s insatiable taste for travel is reflected in several collections of poems and in audiovisual works such as the documentary Te Ganarás el Pan (England-Vietnam, 2006), written and directed by the author himself.
Santiago Elordi currently lives in Chile, where he is writing his third novel..
