María García-Lliberós (b. 1950, Valencia)
Is an economist by profession, with degrees in political science and sociology as well. She collaborates regularly with television, Radio and printed media and is a prolific writer with numerous titles and prizes to her name. Her works include La Encuestadora (1992), which received the Premio Gabriel Sije for short novels; El Juego de Espejos (Nadir, 1996); Equívocos (Algaída, 1999), finalist for the Premio de Novela Ateneo de Sevilla 1999 and winner of the Premio de la Crítica Valencia; Como Angeles en un Burdel (Algaída, 2002), winner of the Premio de Novela Ateneo de Sevilla 2002. Among her short stories, El Miedo (Instituto Alfons el Magnanim, 2003) was translated into Valenciano-Catalán, Portuguese and French and was widely acclaimed, as was El Ultimo Desfile de las Hormigas (Bancaja, 2004). Her most recent novel, Babas de Caracol (Aurea, 2006) was finalist for the Premio de la Crítica de la Comunidad Valenciana.
María García Lliberós has held important positions in the field of communication: she was managing director of the Medios de Comunicación de la Comunidad de Valencia, director of the regional centre for TV in Valencia as well as RTVE delegate for this region. Currently she combines her activity as a writer with the position of economist for the City Government of Valencia.. |
