Mariano Sánchez Soler (b. Alicante, 1954)
Is a prolific writer and journalist. His reporting includes work for weekly publications such as Actual, Primera Plana and Interviu, all of which ran high-profile articles of his about police corruption and large-scale tax evasion and money-laundering. Much of his journalistic work was carried out during his many years with the magazine Tiempo, where he was head of investigation.
His non-fiction books include, among others, Descenso a los Fascismos (Ediciones B, 1998), Los Hijos del 20-N (Temas de Hoy, 1996), Los Banqueros de Franco (Oberón, 2005) and Baltasar Garzón, Tigre de Papel (Foca, 2006). Mariano Sánchez Soler’s novel Para Matar (Ediciones Vosa, 1996) consolidated him as an important new voice in the noir genre. His recent novels include Grupo Antiatraco (Factoría de Ideas, 2006) and La Brújula de Ceylan (Almuzara, 2007).
As a collaborator with the Royal Academy of History, Mariano Sánchez Soler is an active contributor to the Diccionario Biográfico Español. His work as a writer keeps him busy full time, be it fiction, investigative and historical journalism or the conferences that he gives on black novel writing and investigative journalism at the University of Alicante. .
