Juan Bas (Bilbao, 1959) holds a degree in law but was quick to forsake the legal profession to devote himself to what he likes best, having since established himself as a scriptwriter, author and feature writer.
He has worked on the most famous drama series for Spanish television. His literary output includes collections of short stories such as Paginas ocultas de la historia (Destino, 1999), which he co-authored with the novelist Fernando Marías, an adaptation of the script of a series of fictionalized documentaries they wrote for television and La taberna de los tres monos (y otros cuentos alrededor del póquer) (Destino, 2000); novels such as Alacranes en su tinta (Destino, 2002), La cuenta atrás (Destino, 2004) and Voracidad (Ediciones B, 2006, Euskadi de Literatura Prize), and two essays Tratado sobre la resaca (Temas de Hoy, 2003) and Tratado sobre la resaca del amor (Temas de Hoy, 2009). His works have been translated into German, French, Italian, Norwegian and Russian. He has also written two novels for young readers: El oro de los carlistas and Glabro, legionario de Roma.
